New Delhi: The Election Commission on Saturday announced the schedule of assembly elections in 5 states. The voting process will be completed in seven phases in all the states. In Uttar Pradesh, voting will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7, while in Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa, voting will be held in one phase on February 14. Manipur will go to polls in two phases on February 27 and March 3. The counting of votes for the assembly elections of all the states will be held on March 10.
Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra announced the election dates in a press conference. He said that the election process will be carried out following the guidelines related to prevention from corona and all the participating personnel will be mandatorily ensured precautionary doses of anti-Covid-19 vaccine. He said that all the polling stations will have facilities to prevent COVID-19 like sanitizers and masks and the number of polling booths will also be increased.
Guidelines for all political parties-
All programs will be videographed.
Parties will have to declare the criminal record of their candidates.
The candidate will also have to state the criminal history.
Each candidate will be able to spend Rs 40 lakh in UP, Punjab and Uttarakhand.
In Manipur and Goa, this expenditure limit will be Rs 28 lakh.
The term of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly is ending on May 14, while the term of Uttarakhand and Punjab Legislative Assembly ends on March 23. The term of Goa Legislative Assembly ends on March 15 and that of Manipur Legislative Assembly on March 19. With the announcement of the elections, the model code of conduct came into effect in all the five states.
