The Election Commission will release the schedule for the assembly elections to be held in five states today. Assembly elections are to be held in five states of UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa.
The dates for the assembly elections to be held in five states of UP, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur and Goa will be announced today amidst increasing cases of corona. Election Commission chief Sushil Chandra will release the election program of the five states by holding a press conference at 3.30 pm. It is believed that in view of the corona infection, the Election Commission can also implement some new rules. Under this, some restrictions may be imposed on election rallies, polling stations and crowd management.

In the midst of increasing cases due to the Omicron variant of Corona, the political parties of UP have demanded timely elections from the Election Commission and the Election Commission is ready for this. The commission had also visited UP for three days to know the opinion of political parties and on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra told a press conference that all the parties said that elections should be conducted following the Corona protocol.

According to him, all parties want timely elections. But some parties are against more rallies and have asked to reduce the number of rallies. He said that political parties have also suggested setting up of polling booths in dense settlements. Experts say it is important to note that crowds can be a source of increasing infection and that social distancing is one of the key ways to contain the spread of the virus.
